Tenant-User Liability Insurance Program (TULIP)
Southern Illinois University (SIU) is a registered member of the University Risk Management and Insurance Association’s Tenant-User Liability Insurance Program (TULIP). This program allows tenants, or users of SIU’s premises and facilities, to obtain liability insurance for their events.
The basic policy provides general liability coverage with a $1,000,000 limit. Additional limits up to $5,000,000 are available. Additional types of coverage are also available such as host liquor liability for events involving alcohol, excess accident medical coverage to provide limited medical coverage should event participants become injured, or coverage for property damage to University facilities.
TULIP covers a large variety of events. Sample events include, but are not limited to: weddings, receptions, music recitals, dance shows, art shows, meetings, socials, political rallies, outdoor events, soap box derbies, sport events, small parades, and theatrical stage performances. Other types of events may be covered, but will require additional consideration by the TULIP underwriters.
For additional information, or to apply for liability insurance through TULIP, please click to go to the TULIP web site.
Notes about using the TULIP web site:
First-time users must first register to use the web site. Once registered, users may re-enter the web site thereafter using the same registration information. Please note, a passcode is required to enter the web site. If you do not already have the passcode, you may obtain it by contacting Sherri Phillips at 618-453-5144 (or toll-free at 1-866-265-2149) or sherrip@siu.edu.
Upon entering the web site, a series of screens will ask a variety of questions about the event ending with an order summary screen. An immediate quote may show for the cost of the liability insurance or the user may be told they will be contacted for additional information.
If you choose to purchase the liability insurance through the TULIP program you can then proceed to the billing segment of the web site where a credit card can be entered to purchase the coverage.
The University is automatically notified of any application or purchase of coverage and will receive a certificate of insurance as proof of coverage for the event.
